Prof. Dr. Francesco Cappellano (CCT Urology) is an Italian Board-Certified Consultant Urologist with over 30 years of experience in the field of Urology and Neurourology. Dr. Francesco graduated with honours from University Federico II, Italy, in 1986. He received his Italian Board of Urology (CCT) with honours in 1991 from the same University.

Dr. Francesco is a worldwide recognised expert in diagnosing and treating urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic floor rehabilitation, chronic pelvic pain, and erectile dysfunctions related to neurological and non-neurological diseases. He is the only physician using pulsed radiofrequency heat treatment in the Gulf region for chronic pelvic pain and pudendal neuropathy.

He developed new pharmacological and electrical neuromodulation techniques for chronic pelvic pain by using neurophysiology for peripheral nerve blocks. He covers all different urological procedures of the lower and upper urinary tract, as well as andrology.

Dr. Francesco implanted more than 800 permanent sacral and pudendal nerve stimulators during his career. He has been one of Europe’s pioneers in neuromodulation, teaching many physicians around the globe. He also pioneered the posterior tibial nerve stimulation in 1998 and pulsed radiofrequency for incontinence, chronic pain, and anorectal dysfunctions in adults, young people, and children.

He gained broad experience and skills covering all open and endoscopic urological surgery fields. Diagnostic is a pivotal part of his experience covering urological ultrasound, duplex Doppler ultrasound and simple and invasive second and third level urodynamics procedures. His particular interest is in neurourology, men’s health and female urology fields, dealing with functional urology, erectile dysfunction (ED), pelvic floor rehabilitation, urinary and faecal incontinence, chronic pelvic pain and urological dysfunctions related to neurological diseases involving the urinary tract.

Dr. Francesco published many peer-reviewed papers in National and International journals with 1150 citations and wrote six book chapters on Functional Urology and Neurourology. He won five prizes for the best original paper presentation in National and International Meetings. He has been Chairman in several International Meetings worldwide, giving hundreds of lectures. He was also a visiting professor at Milan University (ITA), in Jeddah and Amman. His clinical expertise is supported by robust scientific production and Academic responsibilities.

He was a Treasurer of the Italian Society of Urodynamics and served in this Society for 17 years as a member of the Board Committee.

Dr. Francesco is also a master of judo (2nd DAN black belt) and expert skipper with more than 2000 hours of sailing logbook.

Prior to joining HealthBay, Dr. Francesco has been Head of Department in reputable healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
